I happen to have gone up Chestnut by Fresno State a couple times since we last talked. When you do that, you see cows. And you also smell them. Sometimes you smell them when you’re not driving up Chestnut.
Some days this is embarrassing; bringing someone from out of town by our major University and it smells like shit.
Other times, I defend it. “Yeah, we have cows! Beat that, Stanford!”
It’s also unique, maybe? I dunno. Does Nebraska or Kansas State have a big ‘milk byproduct making program’ too and cow poop is everywhere?
Look, hey, I know the campus and surrounding area doesn’t always smell of cow. But it does sometimes.
I am not suggesting shitting shutting it down (Fresno State ice-cream is damn good). But is this something to move? Should Fresno State’s cow program (Dairy Unit & Beer Unit) be off campus? Or do we keep embracing it?
Speaking of hosting guests in Fresno, I always feel so much pressure to take everyone to the right place and to give them the perfect Fresno experience. And I think I fail at it every time. Does this happen to you too?
You read this newsletter, so you are some form of a Fresno enthusiast. I am guessing your friends and family look to you to figure out the best thing to do around here. I bet you’re good at it.
I am not.
Sometimes, I end up referring to chains because I… because I don’t even know fucking why. Like, Fresno things are not worthy to promote? Even though they most certainly are.
Not asking for advice on what to do - I basically know what to do and where to go. I just don’t execute well and I am venting to you.
I appreciate you being here. If I am being honest, I have been struggling lately with what to talk to you about here at Fresno!Fresno!
Do I want to go full local newsletter that feeds you news that other people are reporting (mostly linking to the Fresno Bee)?
Or do I want to write to you like a Fresno friend of yours that you hear from every couple weeks (or sometimes more)?
It most certainly is going to be the second thing, in the future - pretty much like it has been. I hope that is cool and I hope it’s good.
Speaking of, did you hear? Hear it is official that Bullard & Palm Foster Freeze is going to be a Starbucks? Fuck, that makes me sad. Are there even Foster Freezes in Fresno after this?
If fucking sucks, man. The whole world is a Starbucks. Waddaya gonna do?🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Okay. I’ll let ya go. Take care out there and I’ll Fresno again with ya soon.

Do You Like the Fresno State Cows?
Mike. I like the idea of writing local. If you are looking for help I’d be glad to write some stuff. I could cover restaurant reviews or some other reviews. I plan on doing some reviews on Farmer Markets and stories on the food vendor late night scene.
