Tomorrow (or sometime) the Fresno City Council (or someone), will be voting to go forward with buying the Tower Theatre. Hopefully they approve it. Fresno buys the theatre. Then kick out that self-absorb asshole pastor and the whole Adventure Church douchebag clan the hell out!!
Hopefully.
People on Fresno Twitter have been hella celebrating the possible end of Adventure Church stanking up the Tower Theatre. I say wait till it is done to celebrate. Assholes seem like they always have a way of winning when you think they couldn’t possibly.
Side note: It’s too late to sign it now but check out the cool community letter the Fools Collaborative put together.
Tom Is Fresno Terrific
There is now a big, bronze & steel, permanent statue of a Fresno native in New York for all to see. There is no way to not like that. Thank you Tom Seaver and Rest In Peace.
Dystopian Edwards
I wasn’t a big fan of the Art Deco in general at Edwards, BUT I was a big fan of its uniqueness and prefer it over this new slick version at now “Regal” Edwards.
It is generic as all hell, but my biggest complaint is THERE IS NOT A MOVIE SHOWTIMES BOARD!?!
The outside of the building has no signage (outside of the giant one in my picture above) so it is like entering a city hall or mall or something. Then there is no board inside either. Just little ones above the self-checkout kiosks.
I really like looking at boards, it seems.
The spotinaity of walking up to Edwards and looking at what’s playing then deciding to see something, is gone.
I am not mad enough to boycott or anything, but I am not having a good time with it either, and will likely choose all other theaters before this “Regal” Edwards.
Towering Vinyl
Heads up!: It is Record Store Day on Saturday and Tower District Records and Ragin’ Records are planning for an epic time.
The way TDR and Raging are hyping, this may be the biggest RSD in Fresno yet.
See you out there!
And see you around town, maybe sorta possibly. Many thanks for reading Fresno!Fresno! and letting it into your inbox.
Keep Tower weird and Fresno real.
-Mikey aka The Fresnan
The first time at was inside the Tower Theater was to see Jim Messina. I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. When I read about a church taking over it scared the crap out of me especially thinking how they would ruin the inside. Thank whoever decided on the city council to step up to the plate and make things happen!
