Hey there. Thanks for opening.
The new year in Fresno has started with a chain staple, Fridays, closing. I understand this is a dorky take but I am bummed.
I went to that Fridays for every era of my life. Childhood, teen, 20s at the bar, 30s and up, a dad, all of it. A place that has enough different things to eat that everyone can find something.
It was the original restaurant to feature the style of ‘screw-a-bunch-of-stuff-to-the-wall-and-call-it-atmosphere’. Pretty sure it’s what Office Space was referring to with flair:
I loved it as a kid though. Didn’t hate it as an adult. It’s not tragic, but it’s still sad.
It was a place you take for granted, and that’s probably why it’s gone. As with all things we take for granted; they eventually leave as you have left them no choice.
Over the Holidays (besides taking a week off, sorry about that) I happily did my local duty and shopped at Tower District Records and Ragin Records (Tower location), highly enjoyed getting some records as gifts (even though I prefer cassettes).
Now, I learned from
that there is a Fresno Swap event happening for music collectors on Sunday at Fulton 55:This time I will be buying for myself.
Joshua Tehee’s and I have a new episode of our Fresno podcast, Flowing With Famous, up.
We do (what is pretty normal for us) a lot of Downtown Fresno talk.
Okay, well, this is my first check-in with you of the year. I hope to be better about everything here and I hope you stick around. Thank you for being here.
-Mikey (The Fresnan)
We spent a great deal of time at Friday’s. It brought back memories of living in New York City and spending many Friday and other nights at the Manhattan location. MAny memories at this Fridays location. I wrote quite a bit about it in reviews on NewsBreak. Really going to miss the food and the staff. They were like family, especially after my surgery they treated me and Patti like royalty.
