Randy's Donuts Better Not Leave Fresno With Just a Hole!
Enough Playing Around With This Newsletter!
You put that damn iconic donut on top of the Fresno locations, Randy! Don’t get cheap. Do it!
In case you didn’t catch it, the iconic Southern California donut chain, Randy’s Donuts, is opening two/three spots in Fresno - first two at Bullard & Palm (old One Hour Martinizing) and one across from Fresno State on Shaw (that little strip with the Red Wave Inn).
Being excited about an outside chain coming to town makes me uneasy, but I do like this. There are not a whole lot of places that have a Randy’s, which makes it a get for Fresno.
But, I am worried about Fancy Donuts at Bullard & West - otherwise this seems fine.
It would be pretty sweet (no pun) if Randy’s could do this to the Fresno State location and make it all Fresno State Bulldog on special occasions:
I think a mix of interesting and unique chains and local businesses, are good for Fresno (I’ll explain more of what I mean in another post later) - it’s especially good having one at Fresno State.
There is a question on whether the new Fresno spots will have the donut on top of the buildings. I have seen pictures of a Randy’s location or two that don’t have the donut on top and my FIC (Fresno Inferiority Complex) is kicking in, making me think they won’t bother with the donut.
If you’re going to bring a chain in, go all the way and top it with a donut, Randy.
Incoming: Fresno!
I am bummed that this is the final year of Swedefest. I get it though - everything must end. It looks like I will never be in a Swede myself - there is still time for you to make one though:

Start saving up for the big BIG big Fresno Fair - it’s back on October 4th. I haven’t seen what is new on the grounds this year (there is always something, isn’t there?). I am sure there will be solid Fresno Bee and local TV news coverage.
I will just be looking out for corndogs, taking in a horse race or two, going through the Fresno County museum, and all the other things.
Also, I am THINKING about seeing The Offspring show (Oct 13th):
Programming Notes!
I have been neglecting Fresno!Fresno! and I no longer want to be doing that.
Other projects have distracted me, losing my focus here. I am not going to turn this into a whole thing, just want to tell you to expect better (or at least more) stuff sliding into your inbox.
I am committing to posting weekly here at Fresno!Fresno! A Tuesday/Wednesday post and maybe an extra one (or something else) for the (eventually) paid subscriber.
I would really love it if you could:
Make comments on posts! I REALLY miss the old-school comment threads on blog posts.
Tell someone cool in your life to join you in reading Fresno!Fresno! I want to build a community here. Share it on your social network.
Commit to being a paying member. I will be turning this option on very soon and I would really REALLY appreciate any support you could safely give.
Substack is where all the OG bloggers have been gathering, and it has some of that energy we used to have in the blogging scene. So I am finally going all in on giving this newsletter my attention. Hope you join me.
