Stuff Torn Out Of Fig Garden Village, Edition
La Hacienda Market is pushing the limits of chip bags
Facebook is still good for something outside of seeing what your cousins are up to: groups. One of my favorites is Mid-Century Modern Fresno. They unearthed the cool Fig Garden Village shots above and below.
Info on the above photo:
Another photo from Fig Garden Village's early days shows retailer McDonalds (no relation to the fast food chain). The store was eventually replaced by Gottschalks Fig Garden store, which remained there until about 15 years ago when the building was torn down, and Gottschalks opened their River Park location (now Macy's River Park). Pottery Barn, Banana Republic and Anthropologie now occupy the site in Fig Garden Village. The Cover Girl and Ben Franklin portion of the building remains and now houses Eddie Bauer and Williams-Sonoma. The original buildings in Fig Garden Village were designed by architect John E. Fennacy in a rustic/modern California ranch-inspired style. This photo is from the Fresno County Assessor's Office, taken in February 1967. The photo archive is available for public access through the Fresno County Public Library's Heritage Center. The photos are copyright from the Fresno County Historical Society.
I kinda sorta remember that Gottschalks and maybe when it was the market. But below, I definitely remember:
Well wait, I do not remember it being Pardini’s. But I remember seeing bands play there when it was a seafood restaurant (The Fish Company?), then the salad place, Rock Bottom Brewing, Bulldog Brewing and then when it got torn out for Starbucks and Habit - a sad tradeoff, in my opinion.
Check the Fresno Historical Society for more old Fresno things.

La Hacienda is playing out on the edge of chip bag insanity with this one. Click to watch on Instagram - sorry, I would put the videos in here if I could but Substack doesn’t allow Instagram and Snapchat videos.
A little tribute video to Betty White from the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
In case you haven’t noticed, there is a lot that goes in your green bin as of January 1st. I feel like I am a Portlander now with all my composting. Here is a Fresno County guide if you don’t know what the hell I am talking about.
A warning to not click this link if you are sick of the KSEE 24 “Waking Up My Day” song.
Oh and a good development in the Fresno/Tower supporting community vs. the self-centered asshats of Adventure Church:
Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of Adventure’s infestation of the Tower Theatre.
Keep Fresno-ing!
I guess I am going to head out. Thanks for the read and I hope you have a good week!
