Thanks to @yaylenxx from everyone for the above post on Twitter this week. Something all of the Valley can relate to.
Waters I Don’t Know How To Wade In
There has been so much gun violence in Fresno these past days, it’s hard for even a keep-it-fun blogger like me to ignore it.
The police chief blames it on catch and release COVID rules. I’m not buying it.
Sure, that is SOME of it … probably.
Whatever the reason, adding more police officers to speed to the scene of a shooting that is already over, doesn’t do shit. This is proven by forever-of-things-in-Fresno.
The only way to stop this is by building up the community this is happening in.
Getting people into these Fresno neighborhoods that understand the roots of why gangs (or whoever it is shooting) feel they need to murder someone because they … because they … SEE? I don’t fucking know.
It feels like (I’m sure I’m wrong here), it feels like the Fresno PD doesn’t know either.
After decades of dealing with this, the vibe I get from our Chief and Mayor Elect is ‘lock up more people and do it for longer periods of time.’
This way of thinking doesn’t deserve another $10 million in funds (something the Chief is asking for).
But I’m just nerdy ass blogger. Don’t mind me.
The past issue of Five By Five Nine has a good roundup of things, as well as a lot of other less depressing things to read about. Check it out.
*awkward pause* Moving On
Programming note: My struggle to get this newsletter done and out there on Sunday mornings has become too much.
I put so much energy into getting Drinking & Thinking posted on Saturday mornings, there is little left for Fresno! Fresno!
So I’m changing the post time for Fresno! Fresno! to Wednesday at Noon.
It won’t happen THIS Wednesday, but hopefully the next one and then maybe it wont move again.
This Turns The Stomach A Bit
I feel for all the reporters at the Fresno Bee right now. This is a rough position to be in.
Fresno needs the journalism that the Bee provides. And we need it to not to be tainted by reporters having to chase clicks.
Lets all hope McClatchy straightens up.
Follow Fresno Bee News Guild for continued updates.
Swede Fest Is Still On!
Fresno’s nationally exclusive and super adorable film festival, Swede Fest, is thankfully still happening this year, even if it won’t be happening in-person at the Tower Theatre.
You can still make your own Swede, just gotta get it in by Dec 6th.
I imagine there will be a Mandalorian one or two like this one from last year:
Hot & Saucy
I always enjoy when Fresno chilies get mentioned on the Food Network. I guess that’s why I noticed this “Garlic Fresno” edition of Hot Ones Classic Hot Sauce.
This reminds me, I don’t know that I have actually HAD a Fresno chili. Gotta change that.
You can buy the hot sauce here.
Find A Way To Scare Your Ass
Whatever you figure out for Halloween, have fun with it, get creative.
It sucks for the kids, but this still can be a fun and memorable year, even if there is no traditional trick-or-treating involved.
If you’re into local ghost stories, take a deep dive into the Weird Fresno blog. Michael hasn’t updated lately but it’s the best site around for such things.
Thank You!
Hey. So, I’ll see you next Wednesday with a new issue of Fresno Fresno, and maybe a new President? 🤷🏻♂️
Be safe out there, Fresno.
