When you are stuck for content ideas as a blogger, a good place to go is Reddit to see what your niche is yammering about. The number one question on Fresno Reddit today was:
People came with:
Korean bbq that’s not Shilas.
More seasonal ‘farm to table’ places.
Dominican/Cuban/Caribbean food spot (that isn’t a food truck).
Need more European food that isn’t Italian.
Hmong-specific restaurants that are not just Malee’s Kitchen.
Lacking in straight-up Armenian places.
We all miss Sweet Tomatoes.
No disrespect to all the other quality opinions but the Sweet Tomatoes hits me hard.
And I know it’s not a real “food scene” type place, but damn we want it back. We don’t have an ultimate salad bar/buffet anymore. It was the perfect default place that everyone could go to. HOW HAS NOBODY LOCAL MADE ONE OF THESE!!??
We are THE FUCKING FOOD PRODUCING CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, GIVE US A DAMN KICK ASS SALAD BAR RESTAURANT FOR OUR EFFORTS!!
Like, the United Nations or something should fund a salad bar place in town. A place that only San Joaquin Valley residents (plus one guest) can eat at. I see it as a reward for our food production efforts.
We shall call it… Orchard.
The Bee has been running stories about Fresno restaurant families, why can’t one of them figure out a Fresno Sweet Tomatoes!?
Let’s get “Orchard” happening, guys!!
Some side notes on the food scene thread:
People are getting tired of food trucks - at least the ones with sit-down prices.
Fresno lacks country-specific Asian and European places, for a town so rich in these cultures.
Okay, I just came here to talk about that. I hope you’re having a good week and getting your body adjusted to the heat - keep drinking water, foos.

I totally agree Mike. I miss Sweet Tomatoes. There’s no reason someone can’t replicate it. I mean there’s pizza shops bragging about New York Style pizza that doesn’t come close. A Sweet Tomates would be a gold mine considering where we live.
