This week on Fresno!Fresno! I am in a little bit of a news roundup-y mood. It’s not often but it happens.
It’s been a minute since Fresno was ahead on rain for the season. And it’s been a minute since Bullard & West was underwater as I found it on Saturday night.
I don’t like the rain. But I know we need it. So I will try not to complain.

I am here for the South Van Ness Industrial Building Porn that Dan Zack has been posting. One of many underrated spots in the city.
Rush Day 2022 Is Here!
It’s the only real beer geeky release day Fresno has: Rush Day.
On Saturday morning Tioga Sequoia Brewing will be releasing their special Rush Day beers. There will be peoples in a line. There will be peoples drinking at 11:01 AM. I will likely be one of those morning beer drinkers. Cheers!
Peak Sierra Snow
I don’t ski (maybe one day) but I still appreciate how fucking rad it looks up at China Peak right now:
I also have appreciated all the snow content from Yosemite NP and Sequoia & Kings Canyon:

There Is Vocal Group Really Rooting For Hotel Fresno To Be Drugs
Hotel Fresno appears to be nearing completion of its renovations. When ABC 30 reported on it, you knew the negative comments were coming:
dougfish69:
It will turn into a drug infested housing unit just like the movie "New Jack City"
rodriquez_nathan:
I give it until the end of 2023 and it will be full of drug addicts and homeless.
that__guy__tony:
All that investment just for it to be damaged by drug addicts and possibly burned down by someone trying to cook meth in their kitchenette….
homer_thriftson:
Big mistake. Future drug hotel
Wow. Fresno’s ‘negative nancys’ are really banking on it being a drug palace. I for one appreciate this positive comment by someone actually doing work on the project.:
mastro2442:
I am Superintendent of Plumbing,HVAC, Electrical,Drywall and Tile work for the common areas of the building left in to be completed I work for the Company APEC INTERNATIONAL out of LA that is refurbishing the old Hotel and we are keeping as much of the original mosaic floors and the first and second floors are dedicated to commercial space trying to keep it up scale I don’t know the politics behind it but it is going to be a very nice addition to downtown and all of the asbestos was removed and it will return to its original glory when it was built in 1912 Atrium with Fire Place Dining Hall are all going to be beautiful 👍
Fresno Link Juice
Fresnoland put together a great post featuring Fresno writers recommending books to read. Discover Fresno writers and the books they recommend. One of the most local is Mark Arax’s recommendation of The Anthology Highway 99 (only $1.95 on Amazon right now, fyi).
As a (as it turns out) parting shot at FUSD and Superintendent Bob Nelson, Terry Slatic (now former FUSD Bullard trustee), ran up a giant booze bill on Nelson’s tab last year and now Bob is not happy about it. Boy oh boy did the Bullard area voters make the right call booting Slatic out. (btw, I am not fond of linking to GVWire stories but this is where I first saw it so I gotta give it credit. There is also a Fresno Bee story on it).
Lost in all the Brittney Griner being brought home news was that a Fresnan held prisoner in Russia came home too and if it wasn’t for the attention that the Griner case brought, she might have stayed in prison forever. I love that one of the first things she was doing after getting back to Fresno is having some Mexican food.
Be Merry and Bright
I really appreciate the read and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. I should be talking to you one more time in 2022. In the meantime I will be over here and stuff. Be careful not to run up any big booze bills and take care.

Have you heard The Consequences: Stories by Manuel Muñoz? I just read about it in The Munro Report by Donald Munro. I am waiting for my copy to arrive. I hope it is like Gary Soto's short stories. The author is from Dinuba. Here is a link to an interview:

As always a great read on Fresno when I needed. Thanks Mikey!
